Billy Watman

Billy is an award winning 16 year old Anglo-Brazilian classical / flamenco / fingerstyle
guitarist, inspired by the likes of Rodrigo y Gabriela, Tommy Emmanuel, Mike Oldfield and
Paco De Lucia.
In early 2016, at the age of just 14, Billy successfully auditioned for ‘Guitar Star’ - a guitar
based talent show open to all ages and genres on Sky Arts TV in the UK.
Billy stunned audiences with some extraordinary performances - for judges and mentors
including Jazz legend George Benson, Classical Virtuoso Miloš Karadaglić, Black Sabbath
guitarist Tony Iommi, and David Bowie’s long time producer Tony Visconti - who described
him as ‘a little boy genius’.
Playing arrangements of pieces by artists including Queen, Led Zeppelin, Iron Maiden,
Tommy Emmanuel and The Eagles - despite tough competition he successfully reached the
final 3 of the competition.
Along the way he had the opportunity to perform at iconic venues in London, including the
legendary Abbey Road Studio number 2 of Beatles fame – as well as the final at the Alcove
Stage at Latitude Festival.
Billy’s first audition video - performing an arrangement of Bohemian Rhapsody, has been an
internet sensation, with over 15 million views to date and altogether his online videos have
been seen by over 50 million people.
In early 2016 he recorded, and independently released ‘Escape From Reality’ a 5 track EP/CD
followed in early 2017 by his second EP “Cryptic” containing a mix of original material and
covers. Both are now available from iTunes or mail order from his website.
In 2016 he graced the main stage of Towersey Festival along with Midge Ure and Billy Bragg
and was special guest of comedian Rory Bremner at 2 sold out comedy shows at the
Edinburgh Fringe.
In 2017 he supported virtuoso acoustic guitarist Jon Gomm at London’s Bush Hall,
performed at The Acoustic Festival of Britain, Ullapool Guitar Festival and The Henley
Festival, on the same bill as The Pet Shop Boys and Chaka Khan.
His live show presents a genre defying fresh new approach, with repertoire spanning
Classical, Flamenco and Pop, through to Electronic Trance and Classic Rock – all on 1 guitar.
Billy is always looking for new musical projects and performance opportunities and
continues to study classical guitar at the prestigious Purcell School of Music in London.
